Gum disease, also known as gingivitis or periodontitis in more severe stages, when the jaw bone is also damaged, is the most frequent reason for bleeding gums. This disorder develops when calculus and bacteria in plaque cause the gums to become inflamed, causing the gums to enlarge, bleed, and peel away from the teeth.
